Genrobotics Secures ISRO Project for Advanced Space Robotics
Kerala-based robotics and deep-tech company Genrobotic Innovations Pvt. Ltd. has been awarded a project by the U R Rao Satellite Centre (URSC), a leading satellite centre of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), to develop an indigenous Articulated Robotic Boom Arm System for reflector deployment and pointing on satellite decks.
The project marks a significant milestone in Genrobotics’ expansion into space robotics, extending its engineering capabilities from hazardous sanitation operations to advanced systems for space applications. It also represents a major achievement for Kerala’s deep-tech ecosystem, highlighting the growing role of Indian robotics companies in developing technologies for the country’s space programme.
Founded in 2017, Genrobotics initially gained recognition for Bandicoot, its robotic manhole-cleaning solution developed to eliminate hazardous manual sanitation work and improve worker safety. Since then, the company has expanded its robotics portfolio across healthcare, industrial operations, oil and gas, defence and advanced robotics, building expertise in complex robotic mechanisms, precision control and operations in challenging environments.
The experience gained from developing and deploying robotic systems across these sectors provides a foundation for Genrobotics’ growing focus on space applications. The company continues to advance its capabilities in robotics, artificial intelligence, mechanical engineering and precision systems to address increasingly complex operational requirements.
Under the URSC project, Genrobotics will undertake the development and realisation of an articulated boom arm mechanism designed to support the deployment and precise pointing of reflectors on satellite platforms. The project contributes to the development of indigenous robotic technologies for specialised space applications.
To support its expansion into this sector, Genrobotics is strengthening its space and advanced robotics capabilities through dedicated manufacturing and research infrastructure at KINFRA, Thiruvananthapuram. The facility supports the company’s broader ambitions in advanced engineering, precision manufacturing and the development of specialised robotic systems.
The ISRO project represents another step in Genrobotics’ journey of applying robotics and AI to complex engineering challenges. By extending its capabilities into space technology, the company continues to expand the scope of its indigenous robotics development while contributing to India’s growing advanced manufacturing and deep-tech ecosystem.
